Saint Laurent has replaced the Parisian catwalk with a spectacular setting, the dunes of Maspalomas in Gran Canaria (Spain).
The firm under the leadership of Anthony Vaccarello made public its decision to dissociate itself from the usual fashion calendar and its frenetic pace, the result of which we have been able to see in this show.
The show for the collection next summer 2021 was given the name “I wish you were here“. It started with a basic look, cyclist tights and a long, black minimalist jacket with shoulder pads. This was followed by numerous female pieces such as a lace bodysuit combined with a male fit jacket.
The black colour was the protagonist for the whole parade along with earth tones, whites and reds.
The flowing sleeves with feathers, short moles, bodies, flowing fabrics and men’s jackets stand out, as well as golden touches in several of the looks.
There was no missing the indispensable “little black dress“, black dresses, mini and tight ones. We also saw iconic pieces such as trouser suits, knitwear, prints, semi-transparencies, embroidered skirts and multicoloured print fabrics.
Saint Laurent chose to express classic femininity in addition to the “loungewear“, making a special reference to the quality of the items and their comfort.
The 11-minute video of the virtual show was shot from a drone by French director, photographer and designer Nathalie Canguilhem, who began her career writing articles for Vogue Glamour.
The soundtrack was created by Sebastian. He himself defines his creation as a journey of aural ups and downs; a fusion of electronic and organic sounds.
The jewellery selection was designed by Claude Lalanne, a French artist who died on 11 April 2019 at the age of 93.
Some models such as Hailey Bieber and Kaia Gerber published, seconds after the show started, photos dressed in the new YSL collection on their social networks.
Yves Saint Laurent wanted to spread a message of freedom and flow with the location of the parade in the Canarian dunes, as well as with the pieces of the collection.
The firm has created a set inspired by the Sahara desert, in which the main protagonist is fashion.
